Past:
- In 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Baer bestowed seventeen acres of land for recreational and conservation uses to the Borough of Lehighton. The donated land was adjacent to the former Baer Silk Company located at 7th and Bridge Streets. Since receiving the land, the Borough has pursued funding from many sources to build the recreation complex that exists today.
Present:
- Sporting Opportunities: The land received by the Baer’s is now the site of the municipal swimming pool, baseball, basketball, football, soccer, bocce ball and other outdoor recreational areas. The Borough had recently constructed two basketball courts with bleachers utilizing funding from the PA Department of Conservation and Recreation and borough funds.
- Fishing: The Mahoning Creek runs through Baer Memorial Park and creates an opportunity for day fishing, relaxation and enjoyment of the natural settings.
Future:
- During the Summer of 2021, Parks and Recreation will be organizing basketball leagues for adults, high school students and our youth. A new baseball diamond will also be designed into the multi-sport fields.
